Server info

Everything you need to know to play nicely on the Realm Gates server.

Joining

  1. Install the modpack — opens at release (coming soon; date to be announced).
  2. Make sure your mods are up to date — see Updating.
  3. Get the server address from the admin (it isn't published here).
  4. Ask the admin to whitelist your exact in-game name (see below).

Whitelist & your name

The server is whitelisted — only approved players can join. To get on:

  • Tell the admin the exact name you log in with.
  • It is case-sensitive — Steve and steve are different. Use the same spelling and capitalization every time.

Offline mode — names matter

The server currently runs in offline mode so friends without a premium account can join the Voice Translate beta. In this mode the whitelist filters by name, so:

  • Log in with the exact name the admin added — a different spelling won't be recognized.
  • Don't impersonate other players' names.
  • The whitelist is the server's main protection, so the player list is kept small and known.

Be a good guest

  • No griefing. Some mods can cause terrain-destroying explosions (e.g. the Nucleeper / Nuclear Bomb in Alex's Caves, and tamed dragons in Ice and Fire). Keep that destruction away from shared areas and other people's builds.
  • Mind performance. Big mobs (dragons, hydras, bosses) and huge farms can strain the server. If things get laggy, thin out heavy entities.
  • Voice etiquette. Use push-to-talk, and remember voice is proximity-based — move closer to be heard, or use a group channel.
  • Save on translation. Translation runs through a paid backend, so help keep it cheap: group up in voice channels with people who share your language, so there's nothing to translate. And if you're confident in your bilingual skills, just all speak the same language and skip translation entirely. Voice Translate only kicks in when someone nearby uses a different language.

Travel & dimensions

This server uses Realm Gates: you spawn in a custom overworld and unlock further realms as you progress. If a destination says you can't go there yet, that's intentional — you haven't met its requirement. Reaching the Nether and End may work through Realm Gates rather than vanilla portals; ask the admin about the current setup.

Backups

The world is backed up regularly by the admin. If something goes badly wrong, raise it with the admin rather than trying to fix it yourself.
